Psychology

The American Psychological Association

APA Help Center - This is the American Psychological Association's central source of information designed to help and inform the general public.

The Association of State and Provinicial Psychology Boards

The Counseling Center Village - This site provides links to self-help information on other university counseling center websites across the country. The links are organized by topic. A very useful site, I often recommend it to my clients, with the caution that it may require sifting through some information that may not be as useful.

Ken Pope's homepage - Dr. Pope publishes a number of very interesting articles on a variety of subjects in psychology, including ethics and forensics. The site is very accessible to people with disabilities.

Brain SPECT Imaging - This site has fascinating images showing how various neurological disorders affect the brain.

Wright State University School of Professional Psychology - My alma mater!

Website Design

WebAim - This is a wonderful site that helps explain in relatively plain language how even amateur web designers can make their sites more accessible to people with various kinds of disabilities.

VisCheck - Ever wonder how a person with color blindness views the world? This site not only explains the phenomenon, but offers the ability to process images or even web pages through an algorithm to show you how the image or page would look for someone with different variations of color blindness. This is particularly useful if you want to make your site easier to use for such people.

Online Psychotherapy

The International Society for Mental Health Online - This is the largest organization devoted to promotion of research and practice related to online therapy. Its most active component is the email listserv. Most of the most knowledgeable people in this field are members of the organization.

Metanoia.org - Martha Ainsworth is not a mental health professional but she is an active, knowledgeable and well-known advocate for online therapy. Her site has some educational materials on it, and users can hire an online therapist directly from it.

The Psychology of Cyberspace - This is a nice online book about online psychotherapy for therapists by Dr. John Suler. Great if you don't have easy access to a library!

References Related to the Internet and Mental Health - Dr. Azy Barak actively collects tons of references to articles related to almost all aspects of the Internet, particularly health and research.

Self-Esteem Games - Play them online or download them for free, there's apparently some evidence that playing these games routinely helps to improve one's mood and self-esteem a little bit.
